Comprehensive avalanche skills training in world-class terrain.

AST 2 is designed for experienced backcountry users who want to deepen their understanding of avalanche theory, terrain assessment, navigation, and more. The course follows standards set by Avalanche Canada and builds on the foundations established in AST 1 through more complex scenarios and field exercises.

Companion rescue practice and skill refresh
3-hour evening classroom theory session
Day 2
Review weather and avalanche forecasts, update the hazard forecast, and plan terrain
Terrain management and route selection
Snowpit techniques and snowpack assessment
3-hour evening classroom theory session

Days 3 & 4

Day 3
Review weather and avalanche forecasts, update the hazard forecast, and plan terrain
Continue terrain management in varied avalanche terrain
Develop snowpit and snowpack assessment skills
3-hour evening classroom theory session

Review weather and avalanche forecasts, update the hazard forecast, and plan terrain
Terrain management and snowpit techniques in the field
Consolidate practical decision-making skills
30-minute course wrap-up, discussion, and debrief
