AST 1 is the essential first step for anyone exploring backcountry terrain in winter.

Following the nationally recognized curriculum developed by Avalanche Canada, AST 1 introduces the fundamentals of avalanche safety, terrain assessment, trip planning, and companion rescue.

Through a combination of classroom learning and field-based instruction, you’ll gain practical skills you can apply immediately in the mountains.
